We Got the Score Correct!
By Matt Cordon (kh). Filed in Questions Waiting for Answers |
As frustrating as Sunday’s game was, we continue to gloat that we predicted the final score. We got the order wrong, but that is really beyond the point. Ah, 24-17.
Anyway, the 24-17 loss to Jacksonville on Sunday was as frustrating as… the 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, and 2005 seasons. And the way in which Dallas lost was indicative of the Parcells’ era. Move the ball early, and even get an early lead. Blow an opportunity to extend the lead. Watch the other team come back. Play nervous the rest of the way out. Great formula for an 8-8 team.
We know, we know. It is week one. We know that we should not get negative and say that the Bill Parcells era needs to end. But exactly why should we be as excited again as we were prior to 3:15 p.m. today? Did anyone notice Jack Del Rio’s reactions to his team? He had a 12-4 record last year, and the Jaguars played like they wanted to win this game. The last time that Parcells had a 12-4 record was with the Jets in 1998. Not sure what that means, but if Dallas loses to Washington next week, Parcells’ record with Dallas will fall to .500. We would think he could learn a thing or two from Del Rio.
So here’s the rest of our venting, just to get it out of the way:
- Flozell Adams should not have been on the field. Ugly reminder of the final years of Erik Williams.
- Not sure why Bledsoe cannot dump the ball off. Watching the Manning brothers, you can tell when they are checking off of their receivers. With Bledsoe, it isn’t clear that he is checking off at all.
- The talk of the defense being dominating should have ended after the first quarter. The defense, like it did last year, came to play until the offense was shut down. Then, not surprisingly, the opponent no longer has problems moving the ball. No, this is not an aberration.
- Where was the pressure today? It’s bad enough that Dallas cannot produce pressure with four coming. They had trouble getting pressure with seven guys. That’s bad.
- Is there a rhyme or reason to the playcalling? The run doesn’t set up the play action pass. The pass doesn’t open up the run. Maybe we’re missing something.
- The tackling woes from last year continue. Just seems like the Cowboys miss a bunch of sacks because they can’t tackle the quarterback. Maybe it just seems that way.
Kickholder thinks he should have stuck with writing about the historic drafts, maybe even picking a MOP Award winner. But no, and now that won’t come until Thursday.
