Blog and Forum Roundup for October 12
By Matt Cordon (kh). Filed in Blog and Forum Roundup |Everyone needs to start a chant: “Philadelphia was last week!” But that probably won’t help matters. We’re really starting to get a bit concerned about the Houston game, given that it is Thursday and everyone still wants to relive last week as if they could change it. So let us focus on the Houston game and some non-Philadelphia Eagles topics.
Mickey Spagnola pointed out that Sports Illustrated has rated Marion Barber and Julius Jones as the sixth best running back tandum in the league. Here is the blurb:
Jones is fifth in the NFL with 388 yards and has run well enough to get the majority of the playing time, but Barber is still an integral part of this offense. Coach Bill Parcells seems to trust Barber more in the red zone: Witness Barber’s three touchdown runs compared with two for Jones.
Speaking of, Spagnola also predicted the same score that we guessed with respect to the Houston game: 30-13. It would certainly be nice if that gave us some sort of credibility. We are sure that it doesn’t.
Brad Sham also wrote a good column this week, warning folks not to overlook Houston. Repeat that: don’t overlook Houston.
In 28 seasons of broadcasting these games, these eyes have seen some stunning, depressing losses. Somewhere near the top of the list is the evening of Sept. 8, 2002. That night, at Reliant Stadium in Houston, the Texans became only the second expansion team in the history of the National Football League to win their first ever regular season game.
You say it can’t happen this week? I say the Texans have won 19 games in 4 1/4 quarter seasons, including the last one they played, two weeks ago against Miami. They may not be ready for the Super Bowl, but they’ve beaten people. I’ve seen them beat Dallas when they hadn’t beaten anyone, literally.
Still the best radio announcer we’ve ever heard.
