The Very Unofficial ‘Nervous Thermometer’
By Matt Cordon (kh). Filed in Dallas Cowboys News in Brief |
Mentioned the other day that the “nerves factor” was going up. Thought about it a bit, and now I can introduce the unofficial “nervous thermometer,” based on how nervous I am for the game tomorrow. Feel free to comment– this is always subject to change. Here are my thoughts:
1. Houston comes into Dallas off of a bye and two weeks after beating Miami for its first win.
2. Dallas only gets one chance in four years to play Houston in the regular season. When the Cowboys lost to the Texans in 2002, the year 2006 seemed like it would never get here. It’s here, and I don’t want to think about how long 2010 will take to get here.
3. The Terrell Owens saga this week has finally gone a bit far. The yelling match with receivers coach Todd Haley elevates it to the level of distraction. That anyone has already published a timeline of events this soon into the season really isn’t a good sign.
4. The Texans receivers would seem to be better than the Eagles’ receivers. Rich Gosselin seems to agree.
5. This is a Bill Parcells team. Why should we expect not to be nervous?
Anyway, be sure to check out Blue and Silver.com tomorrow for in-game discussion with some level-headed fans.

It’s a good thing you’re a young guy, kickholder, or you would have had a heart attack by now. lol How did you survive last season? I’m as hungry for the Cowboys returning to elite status as anyone, and the anticipation is killing me, too. We think we have special players who we can win with, and we watch with bated breath each week to see if our prayers are about to be answered. But I have faith in this team; I really believe we are headed for the playoffs this year. But even after the disappoinment in Philly, you know what keeps me grounded? My dad is a lifelong Cardinals fan. No matter what the Cowboys do, I will never have to suffer that kind punishment. Monday night, even at the heighth of the Cardinals’ glory, my dad was still nervous. I was trying to pump him up, but he kept saying, “You don’t know the Cardinals like I know them.” Even at the last, I said, “What are you stressing so much about- it’s Neil Rackers!” (I didn’t know he blew the game-winner the week before; I was still thinking of Racker’s incredible performance last year.) DOH!!!
The look on his face must have been the same one I had after Sheppard’s pick.

LOL. My wife has told me that she is sure I will have a heart attack because of the Cowboys. Probably not a good idea to run a blog where I need to read about them every day!
I’m originally from St. Louis, so I’ve seen what the Cardinals as an organization can do in terms of futility. And that is why at age 6 that I made a conscious decision to follow the Cowboys, heart attack or not!
