Brief News: Coleman Returning, but No Trades

Marcus ColemanWill have more a bit later, but here are a couple of notes:

First, as expected, Marcus Coleman, who was cut last week, is returning this week.  No news about whether he will start or exactly what role he will play.

According to Mickey Spagnola, Dallas did not try to make any trades before the Tuesday deadline.

Lastly, I found this sort of funny: the NFL now has a promotion where it is giving fans the opportunity to submit ideas for a commercial for Super Bowl XLI.   Winner gets a trip to see the Super Bowl.  I’d enter it, but given my inability to promote even my own website, I wouldn’t go into it with much confidence.  I can see it now, though:

McDonald’s: I’m Loving it;

Nike: Just Do It;

knowyourdallascowboys.com: the worst of all the Dallas Cowboys blogs, though not due to a lack of effort or 1986 Christmas videos!

    We went into the off season needing to strengthen our offensive line and sure up the free safety position. We are 5 games into the season and we still have the same needs.We need a better than average O line because of Drew’s immobility and we need a better than average free safety due to Roy William’s inability to cover. We have neither. I don’t believe we have what it takes in our offensive scheme or defense aggressiveness to contend with the elite teams.

    You’re way over-exaggerating, dude. This team is a playoff-caliber team, maybe a year away from true elite status, but they can hang with any team in the NFL, I don’t care who they are. How can you say the O-line is not strengthened from last year? Flo is back. Kosier is not LA, but he’s playing well, and the running game is clicking right now. Rivera is healthy. The only big questions were at center and RT and Gurode and Colombo are both playing above expectations. This O-line is good enough to protect Bledsoe and run the football effectively, thus good enough to win with. They will only get better as they continue to play with each other. They had a bad game against Philly. It happens. It happens against the Giants, too, then I’ll start to worry. They drafted Watkins with the hope he could start, and they hit. He’s a rookie; he’s going to F up occassionaly. But Parcells obviously feels Watkins has above-average ability at the least, and I’ll take his assessment over yours any day of the week. Coleman was signed as veteran insurance, and now he’s back with the team. So exactly how did Dallas not address FS this year? And Roy Williams’ “inability” to cover? That’s just a foolish statement, dude. Think about it. I’m so tired of hearing the same old overused cliches about how Williams “can’t cover” and Bledsoe’s “immobility”. Roy has been making plays in the coverage game. Is he perfect? No. Is he covering well this season? Yes. And Bledsoe didn’t look too immobile diving in for that TD in Philly. His problem is a lack of elusiveness in the pocket. There’s a difference. Regardless, he can still beat defences. If this team falls short of the playoffs, I highly doubt it will be because of Roy Williams or Drew Bledsoe or Pat Watkins. You are right in indicating the O-line is the key. I think they are better than you give them credit for. We will find out Monday night.
