Questions Waiting for Answers: Playoff Edition with Videos Galore!

Playoff games aren’t as regular for the Cowboys as they used to be, so we might as well be excited no matter what might have happened over the past month or so.

Care for a walk back through history? Here is a video that was posted on the Dallas Cowboys website today. Great stuff:

Want some more video? Here is a preview of tonight’s game:

So, I guess we need some questions waiting for answers.

(1) Can the Cowboys find a way to generate any pressure? The 4-3 look seemed to work a little bit better last week, but it still wasn’t enough. The ineffectiveness of the blitz has gone far beyond head-scratching, and these ends (Spears, Canty) are anything but awe-inspiring. Something needs to change, either now or next season.

(2) Running game? Oh, running game? Are you there, running game? The two-headed monster of Jones and Barber has turned into a two-headed mouse, with the two gaining a combined 40 yards or so in the past two games. Nothing more needs to be said.

(3) Can the Cowboys take advantage of a banged-up Seattle secondary? Quite a bit has been made of this, but I wouldn’t simply assume that Dallas will be able to throw all over the place on the Seahawks. That solution would be just too easy.

(4) Does Tony Romo need that second hand for something other than to cover the football? I haven’t played quarterback (at least in organized tackle football) for 17 years, but I don’t recall it being a great advantage to be able to run around with only one hand on the ball. I do, however, remember that it was quite dangerous.

Then again, I was an awful quarterback, so perhaps that commentary should stricken. Consider it struck.

(5) Are we seeing the last of Bill Parcells and/or Terrell Owens? I don’t focus too much on this garbage, but Matt Mosley wrote a piece today that is worth noting:

I’m wondering if it’s a good sign that Bill Parcells spent several minutes discussing his pet cat, Cody, only days before what could certainly turn out to be the final game of his career.

Parcells described his 16-pound Maine Coon (long-haired) as “very, very athletic” to a small group of Seattle reporters who may have tired of writing about the Seahawks’ injury-depleted secondary, which now includes blast from the past Pete Hunter.

If the Cowboys lose to the Seahawks on Saturday – it’s time to start preparing yourself – I’m more convinced than ever that the 65-year-old Parcells will establish permanent residence in Saratoga Springs.

And all this “either T.O. goes or Bill goes” storyline isn’t going to be a factor. A man who has won two Super Bowls isn’t going to let one knucklehead – albeit one for the ages – control his destiny.

Barring a T.O.-inspired deep playoff run, I think Jerry Jones will ultimately decide that the distractions caused by the enigmatic wide receiver outweigh the positives (13 TDs).

He doesn’t want his new coach to inherit The Greatest (side)Show on Earth.

(6) Prediction: Forget it. The Cowboys can win this game, but they will have to turn a number of things around and also hope for Seattle mistakes to do so. Any prediction here would be a hopeful guess.
