100-Yard Receiving Games: Number of Times in a Season

Thirty-four players in the history of the Dallas Cowboys have had at least three 100-yard receiving games in one season. Two of these individuals include Terrell Owens (three times in 2006) and Terry Glenn (four times in 2005). While the likes of Ray Alexander may surprise a few, most of these names are well known.
Michael Irvin
In this category, nobody comes close to Michael Irvin. In 1995, “The Playmaker” not only set a team record, but also set an NFL record, with 11 100-yard games in the Cowboys’ last Super Bowl season.

What an amazing year ‘95 was with both Emmitt and Irvin setting NFL single season marks. Has that ever happened in Cowboys history before, two players both setting leauge season records like that? That record alone is proof that Irvin belongs in the Hall. And just because I am anal, it may have happened 34 times, but only 15 players have actually recorded 3 100 yd games in a season. :)

I noticed nobody reached the 3 game mark during the ‘77 or ‘78 season. That is surprising. I don’t even remember Ray Alexander. I looked up his stats and saw that he played in 8 games for Denver in ‘84, then nothing, absolutely nada until he suddenly appears to lead the Cowboys in receiving for the ‘88 season, scoring 6 TDs no less, than appears in only 2 games in ‘89 and has like one catch, and that’s it. End of career. Wow, talk about a shoe-in for the 1988 MOP award winner. In fact, he has to be a candidate for the Cowboys all-time MOP award winner! What’s his story, or do I have to wait until you finally get to the ‘88 season? Btw, when are we going to start seeing the MOP awards again? It’s been like forever! And while we’re on the subject, James McKnight has to be the leading candidate for 2000. :) It’s only been 7 years, and I’ll bet you 90% of Cowboys fans have already forgotten he became our go-to receiver through cruel happenstance.
